another day, another true crime series β am I right or am I right? Fortunately, there’s been a lot for us to sink our true crime teeth into recently, with the likes of The Plainville Girl Y stairs keeping us more than busy.
The newest one true crime series coming to our screens is Netflix The most hated man on the internet which premieres on the streaming platform on July 27. The series will explore the life of Hunter Moore, aka ‘The Most Hated Man on the Internet’, and take a look at his once popular revenge porn website, IsAnyoneUp.com.
Before the release of the documentary, we decided to take a deep dive into the life of the man at the center of the series and ask: Where is Hunter Moore now?
Who is Hunter Moore?
Hunter Moore, who in 2012 was crowned ‘The Most Hated Man on the Internet’ by Rolling Stone β is the founder of the first revenge porn website.
In 2010, Moore launched IsAnyoneUp.com, a site where users (typically disaffected exes) anonymously uploaded nude photos (typically of their exes) along with their social media handles. The content posted on the website had a significant impact on the people featured in the photos, with many submissions also including their home address, details of their place of work and information on family members.
Moore described himself as a “professional life wrecker” and encouraged people on the site to do “the worst” in the comments section below each photo.
Through endorsement and merchandising deals, Moore made significant amounts of money from his revenge porn site, later throwing parties and building a cult following.

What happened to Hunter Moore?
Although the concept of revenge porn is relatively new, which means that at the time IsAnyoneUp.com was launched, it was not illegal in many US states, with some victims claiming that they had never sent their nude photos to anyone and accusing Moore of hacking your devices to get them.
Charlotte Laws, whose daughter was a victim of IsAnyoneUp.com, was one of the first people to claim that Moore was at the center of a hacking scheme. After contacting other victims of the website, Laws took her findings to the FBI, who investigated further.
In January 2014, four years after he launched the revenge porn site, Moore was arrested by the FBI on charges of conspiracy, unauthorized access to a protected computer, and aggravated identity theft. He later pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated identity theft and complicity in unauthorized access to a computer. He was sentenced to two years and six months in prison.
In addition to his sentence, Moore was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and a $145.70 restitution fee. He was also banned from using social media.
Where is Hunter Moore now?
Moore was released from prison in May 2017, and a year later, he published an eye-opening book titled, Is Anyone Awake?!: The Story of Revenge Porn.
Since then, Moore has kept a very low profile and does not appear to have any social media accounts, although he may be using a pseudonym.
IsAnyoneUp.com still online?
Just 16 months after Moore founded his revenge porn site, he sold it to businessman James McGibney, who redirected him to his anti-bullying website (he now redirects to his personal website).
“Sometimes you need to be a bully to beat a bully and I’m the first to admit that I intellectually bullied the shit you always love” McGibney said in an open letter to Moore after acquiring his site. “Your main stated goal was to ‘ruin’ young girls’ lives. Even after they indicated they would kill themselves if their unauthorized nude images weren’t removed from your website, you laughed in their faces.”
McGibney continued, “Are you still laughing now? You tried to destroy their lives, but I destroyed yours intellectually. You received a master class in the art of social engineering.”
