The best situation for the Cowboys is this player as MVP of training camp

Training camp is here! Over the next few weeks we’ll get a small taste of what’s to come from 2022. dallas cowboys. Sure, it’s just an appetizer and we don’t want to overreact to anything, but this is where it all starts folks. Last year we got to see good things from CeeDee Lamb and Trevon Diggs, who had some amazing battles at camp. And let’s all remind everyone that Jayron Kearse didn’t just fall out of the sky during the regular season when we saw hints that a good year was coming.

But who will stand out in camp this year? Or, a better question is, who would benefit most from the team if he had a performance similar to that of the camp MVP? That was one of the questions that the BTB team tackled during the training camp preview program. If you missed it, here are the responses from each panel member…

david howman -LB Jabril Cox

the LSU Linebacker was thought to be a steal when he was taken in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, but to this day, we don’t really know what it can do. After suffering a season-ending injury in the middle of last year, he didn’t get a chance to work more reps, but now he’ll get his chance. Cox is a long, athletic linebacker who is very good in coverage. If he’s wandering around to mind everyone’s business, that will go a long way toward satisfying the team’s LB depth, as well as setting the table for a good group down the road, making Howman the immediate favorite for the best answer so far.

RJ Ochoa – OT Josh Ball or Matt Waletzko

RJ wasn’t sure if his two-player response was fair or not, but considering the seriousness of having a reliable swing tackle, this should definitely count. And honestly, Cowboys fans probably don’t care which one it is, as long as someone emerges as a player the team can count on when Tyron Smith gets hurt, because you know he will. If one of these guys has a fantastic camp, do you know how much better he would make us all feel?

tom ryle – DE Dorance Armstrong

I’m not going to lie, I was really hoping that Mr. Ryle would throw us a curveball here with an answer so out of the box it would have us scratching our heads, but I digress, he comes through with a very reasonable answer. . The team couldn’t keep Randy Gregory this offseason, so they tried to save face by extending Armstrong. Although they are not the same player, Armstrong is coming off his best season. He was a key role player who blocked punts and even scored a defensive touchdown.

RJ posed an interesting follow-up question that asked if Armstrong turned out to be the MVP in camp, would that just further the idea in Stephen Jones’s mind that his cheap way of doing things is the right one? He’s right that it would seem to validate Jones’ approach, but we want Jones to make the right moves, and while we don’t always like his picks, being right and having things work out is definitely in the best interest of the Cowboys overall.

tony catherine -QB Dak Prescott

There is always one in every group, and on this day he came out of the heady thoughts of the catharine (Pa Pow!!). While it’s very important that we hear good things about Prescott in camp, would that really be the best news for this Cowboys team? Dak has had some mixed results when it comes to showings at camp, and to be honest, it hasn’t really carried over to the regular season. However, what is crucial is to see all the signs that he is 100% healthy because a healthy Dak is a great Dak.

Danny Phantom -DT Neville Gallimore

I wasn’t able to meet with the guys for this discussion, but if I was, I’d take a slightly different approach with this question, as I’m thirsty to see improvements on the team’s biggest weakness: run defense. The team finished third in yards per attempt. While opponents don’t outnumber the Cowboys in total volume (like they did in 2020), they still did pretty well from an efficiency standpoint. The Cowboys refuse to make big investments at nose tackle, but if a beefed-up Gallimore steps in and fills that role, that could be huge for this defense. A little more oomph along the interior line would go a long way, and seeing Gallimore blossom into a new role could be the added strength the team needs to go further into the postseason.
