He may be one of the biggest names in Hollywood, but Ryan Gosling’s number one role is still that of father.
The actor, 48, who is notoriously secretive about his personal life, has opened up about being a father and how he juggles his job as a movie star.
He has two daughters, Esmeralda Amada Gosling, 7, and Amada Lee Gosling, 6, with his partner and actress Eva Mendes, 48.

Ryan explained that one of the reasons he took on his latest role in Netflix’s The Gray Man was to spend time with his children and take them to new destinations.
He added that his current role as Ken in the Barbie movie was also inspired in part by his children, as that is how he can begin to introduce his work to them.
Speaking to Heat magazine, he said, “I’m like a father first, and part of the reason for making the movie.” [The Gray Man] it was this opportunity for us to go to these interesting places and be there with my children.’

He then recalled: ‘You know it’s funny, we went to France and we went everywhere, we went to the Louvre and all this stuff. And if I ask you now, “What was your favorite part of France?” They’ll say “The fruit plate at the hotel.”
Speaking about how he would introduce his work as an actor to them, Ryan said: ‘Well, Barbie was a way of doing that. Not necessarily like he’s doing it for them, but it’s the first time I think they’re understanding. Although they can’t for the life of me understand why I want to play Ken because no one plays Ken! But that’s why we must tell the story of him.’
The rare insight comes after Ryan recounted how he was in the middle of filming an epic explosion scene for The Gray Man when Eva called him about his daughters’ Zoom piano class.

“That whole scene revolves around me being handcuffed to this bench and we’re in Prague and there’s a lot of explosions, and I was there with Eva and the kids, and they were in a nearby hotel, and I got a call in the middle of one of the scenes’, revealed in Good morning america.
“I hid behind a bench and used my free hand, and it was Eva saying, ‘How long are these explosions going to last because the girls have a piano lesson on Zoom?'”
Ryan started dating Eva in September 2011 after working together in The Place Beyond the Pines.

Ryan talked about two of his upcoming movies while at GMA, his Netflix movie The Gray Man and his highly anticipated new Barbie project which sees him star opposite Margot Robbie as Ken.
But worlds collide in The Gray Man, where Chris Evans calls Ryan’s character Court Gentry a ‘Ken doll’.
Ryan admitted that line was added to the script after he was cast in the Barbie movie.
It was after I was elected. Yeah, they could just feel it I guess. I was the last to recognize the Ken in me, but now I see it clearly,” Ryan joked.
Ryan joked ‘it’s a lot’ to play Ken.
“I can’t even get into that really, we don’t have time,” Ryan joked when asked about his new role. “It’s a lot to be Ken,” he added.
