Picard Showrunner Teases Season 3 Villain, What Company, And Worf’s Dominion Connection – TrekMovie.com

Last weekend Paramount+ revealed the first glance in the Next Generation characters in Star Trek: Picard. They also organized a panel comic con with more revelations. Picard season three was the brainchild of showrunner Terry Matalas, who wasn’t on that panel, but spent the last week on social media celebrating the reveals along with clarifying some of what was revealed and even answering questions from fans.

The F-ing Company

One of the biggest reveals of the panel was the discussion of the USS Enterprise, though it wasn’t exactly clear which one. TNG was set on the Enterprise-D and the movies moved onto the Enterprise-E. This Matalas tweet seemed to point in a different direction than those two boats.

You don’t have to read between the lines to see the emphasis on the “F,” which could indicate that the season will feature the USS Enterprise-F, which might make sense since it’s set two decades later. Star Trek: Nemesis and there have been a number of advances in ship technology, as seen in the second season.

When a fan became aware of these clues (posting an image of the Enterprise-F from Star Trek Online), Matalas seemed to clarify again the idea that the season is set on this Enterprise, saying, β€œIt’s not. But…”

Putting this all together, it looks like we’re pretty much back to where we were before the big panel, which is that there’s a new ship that’s going to be the main setting for the season, which repaired the sets of the USS Stargazer from the second season. But Matalas seems to be indicating that this ship is not the Enterprise-F, but he is implying that the Enterprise-F plays some role. Of course, nothing is really confirmed, this is all Twitter tea leaf reading.

Worf’s new sword and connection to Dominion

Many fans were excited to see Worf’s look for season three, but there were some questions. In the moving sneak peek, Worf can be seen with a sword on his back and Matalas offered some behind-the-scenes details revealing it to be a new weapon called the “Kur’leth”, designed by Dan Curry, who designed other Klingon weapons. for TNG included the Bat’leth.

In the trailer, Worf can clearly be seen with four points, which would indicate the rank of a Starfleet captain, however Matalas has indicated that he is not a ship captain.

In the Picard tie-in novels, Worf was promoted to captain and given command of the USS Enterprise-E (around the time of the Romulan refugee crisis). Matalas noted that in the third season (set more than a decade later), Worf is on “another path” and we don’t “know” him as captain of the Enterprise-E. And this clue has something to do with the Dominion War.

Of course, Worf was a veteran of the Dominion War as seen in Michael Dorn’s time in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. And in a podcast interview last month kill them he said: “the consequences of the Dominion War are important in the plot” of the third season.

Commodore Geordi and Commander Seven

While Matalas left Worf’s situation a bit fuzzy, he was happy to clarify Geordi’s rank as commander and Seven’s rank as commander.

During the panel it was revealed that Seven will be the first mate, but which ship or under which captain was not revealed. Also Matalas said that he does not want to reveal if she is “Commander Seven” or “Commander Hansen”, with Seven using her original name of Annika Hansen.

Matalas also hinted that maybe things aren’t what they appear to be in the trailer when it comes to who is and isn’t in a Starfleet uniform.

The villain is a new character… and a familiar actress.

Ahead of Comic-Con, Matalas had revealed that the third season villain would be played by someone “familiar” but new to Star Trek, indicating that it was a new role played by a familiar actor. However, after the villain was revealed to be female during the Comic-Con panel, there was a lot of speculation about what the return of a familiar Star Trek villain like Denise Crosby’s Sela might look like. Matalas again clarified that she is a new character, but revealed that there is a nod to Crosby’s Tasha Yar in season three.

He also clarified that even if he was a familiar actor, that didn’t mean they cast a “big star” for the role.

The only other casting clue Matalas confirmed was that he did cast at least one member of the cast. cast of his previous series 12 monkeys in the third season of Picard.

Those were the biggest things that stood out, but Matalas is worth following on Twitter as he often posts about Picard and answer questions from fans. Although, not everything he posts should be taken as canon. He likes to have a little fun, including posting this meme showing everyone coming back with white hair.
