It is Wonderfulthe world and the rest of comic-con it is simply living in it.
As expected of the most highly anticipated event at Comic-Con, Marvel threw the kitchen sink at thousands of attendees during its packed Saturday night panel, revealing more about the future of the MCU with a plan for the end of the series. Phase 4, the beginning of Phase 5, and even bringing about Phase 6. Three years after shocking the Comic-Con crowd about the fate of the MCU after Avengers: End of the game, wonder studios delivered again, revealing new trailers and details for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Y Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3. The new Ant Man will kick off Phase 5 and introduce who is presumably the next big bad in the “Multiverse Saga” franchise, Kang the Conqueror.
As in 2019, the president of Marvel Studios Kevin Feig revealed a timeline showing the entirety of the MCU’s future movie and TV lineups: After Black Panther Phase 4 ends, Phase 5 begins with quantumania and will continue with a vast list of Disney+ movies and shows, including Secret Invasion, Loki season 2, and the previously announced Sword reboot starring Mahershala Ali throughout 2023, as well as a new Captain America movie in 2024.
Phase 6 will begin with a reset of the 4 fantastic in November 2024 and will conclude with two new Avengers movies: the kang dynasty Y secret war in May and November 2025, respectively.
But let’s fast-forward to where the panel ended: Black Panther. As Marvel President Kevin Feige said at the beginning of the presentation, we’re already nearing the end of Phase 4, and wakanda forever will officially wrap up the phase when it launches this November. After a dazzling display of African dance and drumming from more than a dozen performers, Ryan Coogler took the stage to introduce his cast and prepare the crowd for the upcoming film.
“Five years ago, I sat right there and we premiered the first footage of Black Panther. Sitting next to me on my left was our T’challa, the late great Chadwick Boseman,” he said, as fans cheered and applauded respectfully. “The cast, including Chad, hadn’t seen [the footage] even. She grabbed my hand… he had these huge hands. As the clip progressed, he squeezed my shoulder. When I finished I couldn’t lift my arm. I felt her hand on me for hours. Listening to those artists play, I promise I feel their hand on me now.”
Those returning for the sequel include Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Angela Bassett, and Florence Kasumba. Newcomers include Tenoch Huerta, who will play Namor, and Dominique Thorn, who will play Riri Williams/Ironheart.
As Wright says of the making of the new film: “It’s a blessing, we’ve all grown so much as a family with our characters, we’re so honored to bring you this movie and honor the big brother at the same time.”
Huerta, who also gave thanks in Spanish, emphasized the importance of the inclusion assessment to incorporate it into the film. “I want to say something about inclusion,” Huerta said of his new role. “I come from the neighborhood. I wouldn’t be here without inclusion. Many children look from their neighborhood, they look at us, they dream of being here”.
Before revealing the Black Panther sequel, James Gunn took the stage to provoke guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3, which he called “the end of the story. I fell in love with these characters, they’re not really superheroes, they’re kind of adventurers from outer space,” Gunn said. “They’ve saved the universe a couple of times…but really what they’re doing is saving each other. “
A new trailer for that film, slated for release in May 2023, hints at a search for the origins of Bradley Cooper’s raccoon character Rocket, and takes a step back into the tragic relationship between Zoe Saldana’s Gamora and Pratt’s Starlord.
“How is he real, where does he come from?” Gunn says of Rocket. “I realized that it’s the saddest story in the universe, and that’s what this story is about, to a large extent.”
Pratt, who took the stage alongside several cast members, including Pom Klementieff gave and Karen Gillan, weighed in on what Starlord has been going through since the events of End of the game. “It’s safe to say that it opens up a Guardians of the Galaxy vulnerability to danger,” says Pratt. “He spends the movie trying to make up for being reviewed.”
Prior to guardians The cast left the stage, a character named the High Evolutionary walking out of the audience in full costume, relishing the opportunity to dissect and improve “low-life scum like you and improve it into something less reprehensible.” (We can assume that he is one of the main villains of the next movie).
And “the first film of phase 5”, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a trailer was also revealed. In this preview, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang explores the quantum realm with Hope Van Dyne and her daughter Cassie, after a period of relative leisure following Lane’s part in saving the universe. As revealed in the trailer, when Scott isn’t busy promoting his book on saving the world, he meets Kang the Conqueror (played by lovecraft country‘s Jonathan Majors), a variant of one of the characters featured in Loki.
Outside of the movies, Marvel highlighted two of its most upcoming shows, She-Hulk, lawyer Y secret invasion. The first showed off a fourth-wall-breaking hilarious trailer in which Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk attempts to mentor Tatiana’s Mislany She-Hulk, which is still tailored. Mislany’s character will also act as a lawyer in cases involving superhumans.
secret invasion will focus on former SHIELD agents Maria Hill and Nick Fury, and their fight against the shape-shifting Skrulls.
“This is a darker show,” said Cobie Smulders, who plays Hill, at the panel. “We are going to delve into the characters. It’s going to be a gripping thriller. Are they a Skrull, are they human? It’s going to be a bit of a guessing game.”
