This week, Not well, The satirical black comedy starring Zoey Deutch as a fame-hungry influencer who fakes her way through a terrorist attack, premieres on Hulu. Zoey Deutch (vampire academy) stars in the satirical black comedy Not well as Danni, a misguided influencer who fakes a trip to Paris to increase her clout. When a terrorist attack hits Paris in the real world, she decides to keep acting, posing as a survivor to get on the ground level of an international incident.

A Finnish horror film that works as a satire of online culture, Hatching follows Tinja, a 12-year-old girl who has been the subject of her parents’ video blog for seemingly her entire life. When Tinja comes across a strange egg and brings it home, she grows rapidly before… well, hatching into a creature nicknamed “Alli.”

Of our review:

But Alli is a mesmerizing presence who gives the film a cult-like center of chills. Bergholm tells Polygon that she literally Googled the world’s best movie animatronics specialist and then approached him about working on the film. That bold choice paid off: His animatronics supervisor, Gustav Hoegen, came directly to this film after leading hands-on creature effects teams for Lucasfilm, on Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Solo, The Last Jedi, Rogue One and more. The Force Awakens. . His head of SFX makeup, Conor O’Sullivan, comes from a similar pedigree, as one half of the Oscar-nominated effects duo that gave Heath Ledger his grotesquely leering look as the Joker in The Dark Knight. Together, they and her crew make Alli terrifyingly visceral, with the familiar weight and conviction of practical effect rather than CGI. And Solalinna’s performance with the puppet is compelling and harrowing. Together, they push the film past its weak points to a memorable ending.

The famous British filmmaker Terence Davies (a quiet passion) returns with this biopic of the British poet Siegfried Sassoon. Jack Lowden (slow horses) and Peter Capaldi (doctor who, local hero) both play Sassoon at different times in his life, in a delicate portrait of soldier turned anti-war activist turned poet.
