Members of a popular internet forum were outraged after an employee explained how a kind gesture from his employer turned out to be nothing more than fool’s gold.
in a virus Reddit post posted on r/antiwork, Redditor u/NovelTAcct (aka the original poster or OP) said that they, along with all of their co-workers, were looking forward to eating pizza provided by their HR department until a district well paid manager snatched several cakes for himself.
Entitled, “The District Manager Stole All of Our Break Room Specialty Pizza,” the mail It has received about 42,000 votes in favor and 2,400 comments in the last day.
“We had a visit from all the ‘important’ managers yesterday,” OP began. “One of those checkups where they try to catch you doing something wrong.”
Despite being sniffed around by higher-ranking managers at her employer, the original poster said that at one point during the “visit,” a human resources representative informed staff members that she brought pizza for everyone.
And while free pizza is often considered a futile attempt to gain ground with exhausted employees, the original sign said they were excited to eat a slice later that day.
Unfortunately, that excitement quickly faded.
“[Pizza is not enough]OP wrote. “But this pizza was from a locally famous pizzeria and we were all itching for a bite to eat on our breaks.”
“By the time someone had a break, there were no pizza or pizza boxes in the break room,” OP continued. “Front of house staff confirmed that our District Manager TOOK EVERYTHING (4-5 boxes) when he left.”
“He makes $250K a year and he stole the only thing we expected that day,” OP added.
Last decade, behavioral economist Dan Ariely set out to determine what motivates employees more: pizza or money.
With a control group working at a steady pacean additional group was offered pizza and the other was offered $30.
For the money-incentivized group, productivity increased 4.9 percent. For the pizza-incentivized group, productivity increased by 6.7 percent, apparently showing that a company-paid meal is more desirable than cold cash.
Employees who feel appreciated are more likely to work harder than those who don’t, and for some people, a free slice carries more weight than an extra $30.
The debate between pizza and money, however, loses its meaning when there is no additional compensation offer and a district manager eats four to five whole cakes before employees have a chance to eat any.

Throughout the comments section of the viral Reddit post, Reddit users expressed their surprise at such a blatant act of gluttony and offered possible responses to the original poster.
“I mean f**k,” Redditor u/jisuanqi wrote in the top comment of the post, which received nearly 12,000 upvotes. “As cliche as free pizza is, they take it away from you.
“Why not kick everyone in the trash on your way out of the office too?” they added.
“Seriously,” Reddit user u/Beopenmind16 chimed in sarcastically. “Like, here’s a pittance for your suffering. IT’S A JOKE!”
Reddit user u/1min_2_midnight, whose comment received nearly 5,000 upvotes, advised the person who posted the original post to tell the human resources representative what happened to the pizza he brought for employees to eat.
“Someone needs to tell the HR lady,” they wrote.
“Tell the human resources lady that [Mr.] $250K a year took all the pizza she specifically came over and told them about,” Redditor u/GoodMorningMorticia added, receiving nearly 4,000 upvotes. he acquired it. .”
