It’s easy to see the similarities between powerhouse singers Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood (the former Voice the coach even said she has been mistaken for Underwood prior to). They both started out as country singers, and each won their season of american idol and turn that success into international fame. However, when there are similarities between people, comparisons are made and rumors of competition between the two have been around for years.
Beef complaints erupted again, after both Idol Each of the champions released a new album in June. Is there bad blood between the two? Let’s take a look at what happened this summer to fan the flames, as well as what they’ve said about meat in the past:
Why rumors of a fight between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are rising again?
Carrie Underwood released her ninth country album, denim and rhinestoneson June 10, one day after the Kelly Clarkson EP kellyoke It came out June 9. Season 4 Idol The winner reportedly took issue with the timing of his album release, and a source told him entertainment hours:
Carrie worked long and hard on her album. She co-wrote most of the songs and the lyrics came from her heart. Then there’s Kelly, putting out a cover EP that other people made famous. Kelly’s album was meant to be a fun record to listen to on summer road trips, but you can’t step on Carrie’s toes like that and not feel the consequences for Carrie and her fans.
The source went on to say that the two are not friends and never will be. They said that the constant comparisons that singers face as winners of american idol “Drive them both crazy.”
What have Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood said about the alleged feud?
Regardless of what Idol champions really think about each other, neither has done much to publicly support the idea of a fight. In 2018, Kelly Clarkson tried to quell the rumors by posing with Carrie Underwood on the red carpet at the Radio Disney Music Awards. She said at that time (by yahoo):
Everybody always tries to pit Carrie and me against each other. So when I saw her, I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s get this over with right now and take a picture together because we’re never in the same place. And, like, it never happens. And people always try to fix it like we’re enemies. And I’m like, ‘We don’t even know each other well enough to be enemies.’
It is true that the OG american idol the winning streak came three years before Carrie Underwood’s, so it’s not like they competed together or took part in some Idol reunion shows. Kelly Clarkson joked about the alleged tension between the two in a 2019 tweet:
Someone just sent me this and I’m wondering why she gets the good picture and I have the worst expression I’ve ever done with zero muscles on my face ha! Carrie Underwood has remained silent on the subject, but she made a virtual appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2020, where the two talked about Christmas movies and Christmas music, but didn’t mention their past or american idol much at all.
Whether there’s any truth to the rumors or not, this doesn’t seem like a narrative that Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood want to continue. While the inevitable comparisons between the two make it interesting that they released albums just a day apart this year, it’s not real proof of the beef.
